During this 3-Session Portrait Drawing Class students will learn how to more easily draw from life (1 pose for all sessions) with artist Kelly Foss, Grand Central Atelier graduate.
April 8th) Session 1: Students will learn how to set up the model and space to their advantage. Using vine charcoal and graphite pencils, they will draw the larger portions of our subject, working from the outside in. With the help of observing darks and lights, they will subdivide the masses and place the features.
April 15th) Session 2: Using straight lines to capture curves, students will learn the advantages of drawing in this way, and how it helps in achieving more realism. They will focus on finding the skull structure on the model and drawing. Also, they will learn tips of “triangulation”/point to point drawing.
April 22nd) Session 3: Time to get into the nitty-gritty! How do you draw hair? Noses? An ear? Students will go more into depth with these often-thought-tricky subjects. They will learn how to finish well, to take home a piece you’re proud of.
